I always find its not a good idea to actually eat butterflies, or their larvae.

Yes and no, respectively.
Now, on occasion, there have been other, less wholesome creatures who have stirred at the thought of various and sundry acquaintances of mine that I could do with out, but butterflies are harmless enough.
