Just A Little Patience….

I tend to get in a hurry. A lot. And when things don’t go my way, well, I bail and look for the next instant-gratification moment.

Because I hate to wait.

I’m starting to realize, though, that there’s truth in all those highly annoying clichés; you know, those ones that make you grit your teeth when someone wants to give you helpful advice? Like:

Worth waiting for – Patience is a virtue – Waiting is the hardest part – Good things come to those who wait
Blah blah blah. Where is the sage advice to tell me HOW to wait? I have to wait, I’ve got that part. It is crystal clear. What the hell am I supposed to do in the meantime???
(Last response when I asked that question: “Take it one day at a time.”)
Sigh.

Isn’t that what iPods are for? drowning your thoughts until something actually happens?

Find a distraction, it really helps, or develop some sort of neurosis that causes you to not do anything until it is too late ;)

Well, I’m afraid I may have been the person responsible for the “One day at a time” comment, but it *is* true. Also? This is what multitasking is really for. You work one project until you get to a point where you have to wait, then you set it aside and work on something else until you can resume the first project again. And, yes, I do use the words “relationships” and “projects” pretty much interchangeably. In many ways, they’re the same thing in my tiny, little brain.

As the Tom Petty song goes, “waiting is the hardest part.” I am not a patient person either so unfortunately cannot offer much better advise, other than find something else to keep you occupied while you wait…which even then isn’t what you want!

Play that old Guns & Roses song Patience!
